A conversation I had with Granma:
It was one time when Granny Mallie was sick and Granma Rachel was worried about her. We were standing in Granma’s living room looking out the picture window. She could see Beverly across the road. She said … “Beverly reminds me of Mallie. I remember when she was a child walking down the road with that long yeller hair down her back. You know, we have been best friends all our lives. We grew up together and after we married we lived just around the holler and raised our children together. She has always been my best friend…”

Mom told me that she moved to Hurricane creek in 1907 when she was was just a Little thing. She said when she started school she and Mallie became best friends togather. She said Mallie was more like a sister to her than just a friend. Did you know that Mom lived within two miles of where she moved to in 1907 all of her life and she was 89 when she died. When her and Daddy first got married they lived up by where the hurricane mimimart is now. Then they lived where the Pearl Fields place is, then over on Big Branch just down from Grassy Gap, then they built the log house up in the head of big branch. Then they moved to Hurricane across for Vance and Gladys. They may have lived in another house or two, I don’t know, but I do know Mom never left Hurricane or BigBranch.
